My Own Chapter

If I will change one part in the Iliad. I'd like to change the part when Achilles accepted the offer of Agamemnon and Achilles return to the battle. I think this part is chapter 9. I want to change this because this is the root of the fall of Trojans.

In the story Achilles declined the offer of Agamemnon, so Patroclus go to the war as Achilles. Then, when Hector killed Patroclus, then Achilles revenge to Hector with his anger and rages, so Achilles fight Hector. So Hector Dies, and because of this the Trojans don't have a better fighter/leader for Trojans. So Trojans lose to Achaians.

If I'll change this. So Achilles accepted the offer. patroclus wont go in the war. Then Achilles wont have an anger to Hector. So their will be a chance to Hector be alive to protect the Trojans. So their will be a chance for Trojans to win the war.

As you can see, in every decisions we make many things will be done or will be change. Our life is like an Official Chess Game, Every time we make decision we must think it carefully, because if we make mistake, we lose.

Bonus:

For me, Heroism is the life giver, savior, protector and who face his weakness to protect someone. For me, Hector is a favor hero of Iliad, because he protect his countrymen, save his brother Paris, and he sacrifice to be with his family but he face the danger in the war.

Patroclus' Death

Patroclus was the son of Menoetius and Sthenele and close friend of Achilles. Patroclus accompanied Achilles to the Trojan War, although he would have been obliged by the oath of the suitors (Oath of Tyndareus) to go to Troy. Patroclus is a noble fighter and comrade because he show his being loyal to his comrades and he fight for his comrades safety, eventhough Achilles dosen't want Patroclus to fight so he just prayer for his safety.

In book 17, Achilles still didnt join the fight. that why Patroclus volonteer himself to fight for Achilles presence. Achilles didnt want his idea, so Pratoculus change the condition, just to protect the ships. Patroclus trade his armor for Achilles' armor. He goes to the flamming ships with Achilles' soldiers. After some events, Patoclus(dishuise as Achilles) and Hector have a battle, Zeus decide the battle and he let Hector wins but after he killed Patroclus, Hector commanded his troops to retreat. Patroclus' Death means Hector's death.

Patroclus shows his bravery to fight with the Acheans even he knows he doesent good at fighting. Maybe Patroclus disguise as Achilles because he dont want Achilles' name will to be called as a coward or anything that Achilles dont want. Patroclus show his being a loyal friend for Achilles. Patroclus willl do anything for Achilles like a real friend that will help you anytime.

Achilles' Decisions

As Far as I know, Achilles is the best warrior in Iliad, his upper body is immortal and his lower is his weakness. He love his his friends, crew and country men, especially his birthplace, Phthia in Greece. He is a loyal friend of Agamemnon. He takes offense easily and reacts with blistering indignation when he perceives that his honor has been slighted. He is fearless warrior that will do anything to win his battle.

In book 9 of Iliad, Hector wants to have a one on one fight from Acheans and Trojan to prevent a blood rain in war, Agamemnon agree with Hector and he want Achilles to fight but Achilles is not with the Acheans, Achilles is in his tent playing his Lyre with his friend Patroclus. So Agamemnon sent his best warrior to communicate to Achilles, about the proposal of Agamemnon, that he will have a tripods untouched by fire, igrots of gold, couldrons, horses, grand creature form the price in races, a woman, and especially Breseis  just to fight on a one on one battle with Hector. But Achilles decline Agamemnon's offer because he wanted to return to his country, Phthia.

Achilles is not a king. but there is a chance that he can be a king of his place, because he is brave warrior that never give up his responsibility as a warrior of his crew even he died fighting with in war. Achilles is fearless warrior that he won't show his weaknesses in his enemies, even a a death of his love one. And he is loyal in his country and never show his back at the times of war. But he is warrior that want a little quiet and peaceful place. And sometimes he show his being a short tempered man. But some of his traits has good characteristic of a brave king, and never put someone in trouble.

The Battle between Menalaus and Paris

http://www.paulthomaspaintings.co.uk/iliad.htm.htm
For me, I consider Menelaus is the nobler, greater and more honorable man than Paris, because Menelaus is a strong, brave, have a good leadership and most important is he fight for his love and he never giving up, and he use sword and spear as a weapon, because sword and spear symbolize strong and brave man. And Paris is coward, self-centered, and unmanly. Menelaus is a strong and brave because he accepted, fought and certainly win the match with Paris. He have a good leadership, that’s why he called a "King of Sparta". And lastly he fight for the one he love and he never give up.

In the book 3 of Iliad or the movie Troy, in the fight of Menelaus and Paris. Paris offer a match to Menelaus, the one who will win will have Helen, Menelaus fought Paris. Paris had been hurt, so he run to the Priam's place, and Helen followed him. In this part Menelaus accepted the offer of Paris because he wanted to have Helen back. and he will do anything even he die, To prove that he really want Helen to be his wife. But in the end, the offer of Paris was broken.

As we all know that the traits of Menelaus is better than Paris. He is strong, brave, caring, and etc. But now, as you can see today, the people of our country is now. coward, selfish, uncaring, and many more like Paris he have this traits. For example in the movie of Troy, Paris offered a deal with Menelaus, the one who will win will have Helen. But in the end Paris still have Helen. For me this characteristic of Paris shows that we cant hold our promise until the end, even we were the one who created this promise time will come and this promise will be broken. like others said "promise is meant to be broken".
